For those of you who do not understand why my profile picture is that of a zebra- when studying medicine students are taught When you hear hoofbeats, think of horses not zebras. New doctors would frequently diagnose rare, exotic illnesses to common ones because the rare,interesting illnesses would stick out in their memory. So the approach became to teach medical students to focus on the common, more plausible diagnosis. Over the years the Zebra became the symbol of many , often misdiagnosed, rare conditions. Particularly in the neurological field. Doctors would stick with the horses and diagnose patients with POTS, EDS, fibromyalgea, restless leg syndrome, etc as simply being DEPRESSED...the most common horse they knew. I have been diagnosed with a rare condition- esphogeal dyskinesia. It took Many doctors, many tests, and many months to reach this diagnosis; its taking many more months to cure this disorder. I AM A ZEBRA. It is my intention to keep my profile picture as a zebra until I am cured. So, if you log on to FaceBook some day and see my picture smiling back at you, let the party begin because that will mean I am cured!
