For those of you who dont know, my Pop-Pop was diagnosed with very aggressive AML leukemia two days after christmas and passed away this past Saturday. I was fortunate enough to spend his last few days with him, and Ive spent the past week thinking about what I can say to sum up the kind of man he was. The overwhelming word that continues to pop up when you talk about him is selfless. This is how he lived his life. No matter how bad he felt, when you came to see him he was all smiles. Even over the past few days of his life, his concern was not with himself, but with making sure everyone else was ok with everything. One of the last things he said to me was take care of your family. When its all said and done, you cant take money or fame with you, but the amount of people who show up and care about you at the end is a testament to how you lived your life. In this respect, he was one of the most wealthy men out there. Being with him the past week was probably the hardest thing Ive ever done, but I wouldnt trade it for anything. We had great discussions, shared a beer and Im at peace with knowing I told him everything that I needed to. The amount he will be missed cannot be put into words, but his legacy and memory will live on through his family. Thank you Pop-Pop for everything, well have another beer together again someday...
