For those of you who have been following Theos behavioral issues/ training, here is an update: We got Theo at 7 months old, and he is now 1 yr 9 months. He came to us with extreme dog aggression. A few months ago he began developing human aggression. We went to a veterinary behaviorist, who said he has severe dog aggression and mild human aggression. She said the human aggression is nothing we did, but a combo of his early life and genetics. She said he is a very fearful dog. She said he will never be able to be around dogs, but that we can work on the human aggression so that it doesnt develop into something scarier as he gets older. He was on Prozac, but she did not feel it was working so we switched to Clomicalm (we just fully ramped up today).. he has had to be on a mild sedative for the transitions, as he became quite aggressive when weaning off the Prozac. I am so proud of him, as we have had some great socialization successes!! Before he was barking and growling and bearing his teeth at people entering the house. We have gotten to the point where if we meet someone familiar outside first, go on a short walk, all walk in together, then immediately have the visitor give him a filled kong, he is relaxed and happy. It is not perfect, but I feel we are finally making progress!! Our goal is to continue socialization, and get him to a point where he is at least able to enjoy himself outside (instead of being constantly stressed about dogs). We will get there!!
