For those of you who somehow do not understand -- It actually is not right to bring religion into something like graduation. Whether you believe it and realize it or not, not everyone here is a Christian, despite the area we are from. Not everyone has the same beliefs. Prayer is to be done to yourself or with your church or a group of people who follow the same religion as you, not in a public ceremony that has nothing to do with religion filled with people of all different religious views. I dont understand how taking out public prayer hinders your ability to give praise in any way. It is very disrespectful to assume that everyone there is okay with publicly addressing one single religion and not to worry about the ones who arent, even if that may only be one single person out of a thousand. If you were asked to face Mecca and get on your knees at graduation, you would understand. It is the same for anyone who is not of the Christian faith when we are asked to pray. Pray to yourself all you want, but do not assume everyone wants to. It shouldnt even be something that is brought up and it doesnt matter how you were raised, not everyone was raised the same. Do what you want on your own time but dont ask an entire group of people to do what youre doing just because YOU believe its right. No one is forcing you to pray with us. That does not matter when it is something that shouldnt be happening to begin with. Its self-righteous, uncomfortable, rude, and disrespectful. This area will not move forward until the people here realize and accept that people are all different and you dont have to be a white, straight, Christian to be a good and acceptable person. Dont push your beliefs; they are for you.
