For those of you who still have at least a willingness to have an open mind about GMOs, this is a very sobering read. It has become pretty clear to me that the anti-GMO position is a visceral one and not a critically ascertained one. It has also become pretty clear to me that the anti-GMO position is a first-world issue and becomes pretty damning in consideration of the rest of the world. Heres a germane quote to get you started (in case you dont have time to click on the link and read the whole article—I strongly encourage you to do so at a later time, however). The world faces an enormous challenge: with changing diets and population growth of 2–3 billion over the next 40 years, UNESCO predicts that food production will need to rise by 70 percent by 2050. Many pests and diseases cannot, however, be controlled using conventional breeding methods. Moreover, subsistence farmers cannot afford most pesticides, which are often ineffective or harmful to the environment. With a shout out to Barry Devenney, whose tireless lets look at the science here, people campaign, compelled me to look at my own visceral responses to this issue (and many other issues, for that matter).
