For those of you who were following my post about the international homophobic hate-fest known as The World Congress of Families being held in Melbourne this weekend: The whole thing turned out to be a complete disaster for the organisers, who had to shut the conference down after only one day. After four venues cancelling on them they ended up booking at a secret location - a centre run by a fanatical religious organisation of quasi-fascists. Even several right-wing conservative state and federal government ministers who were scheduled to attend pulled out in horror when they learned of the hosts - and in the process let slip the location. I recognise that life as a gay man is easy for me as I am privileged to be living in one of the gayest cities in the world. However, whether you live in a small town, a city, a state or country where you suffer under this kind of oppression, know that there is a worldwide network of people and organisations at the ready to help you fight for your rights. You do not have to suffer alone or in silence, you will ALWAYS find someone to help you. Being on this group is a good start - ASK FOR HELP - either in a public post or a private message to the moderators. We are here for you. It may sound like just a slogan but the message is true: It gets better.
