For those of you who wonder why many shelters and rescues will not adopt or send to rescues out of state, here is just one of many examples of why. Unless a rescue or shelter can reliably investigate a person or another rescue, and actually check up on them from time to time, they are taking a big chance by sending the pet out of state for what they truly want to believe is a good placement. This kind of thing can happen to anyone, no matter how much care they take, even when placed locally. But getting them back from a long distance away when a placement fails for any reason can be a logistical nightmare. Please dont be critical of policies that forbid out of state rescues or adoptions. Please help support strengthening of local resources so that all pets needing homes can be placed in reasonably close proximity.
