For those still feeling the sting of the VRA decision yesterday, I bring good news: Section 3 of DOMA was struck down today. Federal law recognizes all legal marriages as such, and thus eligible for the benefits of the same. (State law is a little more varied, but this legislation opens the way for TONS of equal protection suits, whether the Full Faith and Credit Clause covers marriages, etc., and I believe the SCOTUS will be considering a new case on this matter soon... and hopefully someone with the proper standing). So this week is a mixed bag, legally. So to the folks fighting for LGBT equality: Congratulations on your victory today, and to the folks affected by the loss of Sec 4: we will not let this stand.
