For those that are into rare flowering plants...the n get along to Roma Street parklands NOW as you will be able to witness this amazing flower . Heres what Paul Hoffman says about this rare event! ...Looks what flowering in the Roma Street Parkland Rainforest. Amorphophallus paeoniifolius also known as the Elephant Yam or Dead Corpse Plant. It’s an amazing flowering aroid perennial, native to tropical northern Australia, tropical Asian India and New Guinea. The Elephant Yam is rare in the wild and quite a spectacular flower which is about 40cm high at present. Once the flower reaches maturity it will start to smell like rotten flesh to attach fly’s to help with pollination. This plant is related to the Amorphophallus titanum which is the world’s largest flowering plant. This is well worth seeing as I have only seen it flower at RSP once about 10 years ago.
