For those that are just staring the battle of blastomycosis, I - TopicsExpress

For those that are just staring the battle of blastomycosis, I want to offer you a little hope. This is my Sniper Lenny the rescue I volunteer with pulled him from Chicago Animal Care and Control. Originally though head trauma and being deserted and a skin disease. Eye specialists confirmed blasto. First two photos are beginning of August 2013. Doctors literally did not think he would survive a week. Given a 5% chance of survival since it had already gone to his eyes, lungs and skin, yes systemic full blown. We he made it through the first 2 weeks he was up to a 10% chance of survival. I agreed to foster this little 30lb thing so that when he passed he would pass in a loving home with people around him. Next two photos are August 2014. Now 60ls of muscle. Is he cured? No we are still fighting this battle he is still on daily intraconazol medication. But from being off the charts to begin with to barely being on the charts now at blasto positive but he is still here. Yes there are some bald spots on his skin from the lesions that covered his body where the fur didnt come back. No he will never be a running buddy due to the scaring in his lungs and he will always be 100% blind but he survived. Yes since he had no manners what so ever before that it will be a very long road for him to not be excited. But heck he has every right to be an happy excited dog. He is still here. He will beat this monster and he and I will continue to help people learn and know what blasto is so that other can be diagnosed early when it is so much easier to treat. We think about those of you just beginning this battle and pray for you all. For those that have lost loved ones to this battle you are in our prayers too.
