For those that dunno, Ive lived nearly half my life in 香港. First time our family stationed there was during preschool. Left briefly, then returned during Middle school and even graduated High School there. Have been fortunate enough to first handedly witness the 1997 handover. Saw the British colonial flag transition into the Bauhinia flower. Dad got sick and passed away in 香港 as well. Being shielded in the expat community, growing up in a international school bubble, I always thought 香港 is just a phase. I never really considered myself as 香港人. After all, were not exactly 土生土長既香港人. My brother Shinji truly did grow up in 香港. From preschool til grade 10. We have family and relatives that raised their own family and children in 香港. Seeing current events in the past few years... I now feel, we have roots in 香港. Ive always felt comfortable going back there. I may not be able to keep up with the quality of life my parents have provided while growing up in 香港... This has always been a main reason for me to not relocate back. Being in Japan these couple of years, and being independent in Tokyo, I realized that relocating back to 香港 and maintaining an above average lifestyle there without any help is possible. 香港... Im coming home. Not immediately, but in the coming years, I wanna come home and settle down. 我係香港人. We ♡ HK
