For those who arent aware I am a massive fan and believer in a dead lift, If for whatever reason I could only do 1 exercise for the rest of my life, Itd be the dead lift that I would choose. So I thought I would share some simple/basic information on the differences over the next few days between a traditional straight bar dead lift and the more recent design, the trap bar dead lift. Trap Bar Benefits: - Less stress on the spine - Can produce more power (lift more weight) - Better for beginners Where do trap bar dead lifts fit into programs? Another great thing about the trap bar dead is its versatility... A few great reasons to use a trap bar: - As the primary, knee-dominant exercise of the day, in place of squats (back or front), especially for those with back or shoulder injuries. - As the primary, hip-dominant exercise of the day, in place of traditional deads (straight bar), especially for those with a history of back problems. - As a hybrid hip-knee exercise to use as a stand-alone on days where Im not performing squats or traditional dead lifts. - As a exercise on dynamic effort days where speed and power generation is the primary focus. Note: Dont get me wrong, when push comes to shove I will also pick the straight bar dead lift over the trap bar.... thats just me. However! I do use the trap bar for some clients.. & even myself on the odd occasion because everything has a place when used correctly. This is just a little article to help those who are stuck in between the straight and trap bar deads. (straight bar dead lift article will be posted sometime tomorrow)
