For those who choose air conditioning vs. tromping the hot 100+ deg pavement for a lemon shake up - heres how you can do it at home as I have year around! 1/4 cup granulated sugar 1/2 lemon, orange or lime 16 ounces water ice cut up lemon in wedges (about 1 pcs) and put in tall glass. Pour the sugar over the lemon pcs and allow to sit for about 10 min. to allow the oils from the lemon to permeate the sugar. Then take a blunt end of a spoon and press on the lemons to release all the juices. Pour cold water over this mixture - and mix (or w/a lid - shake). Add ice and enjoy! :) :) (a concession stand owner at the state fair taught me these important tips - youll notice many places will have several cups lined up ready to go...but its really to allow the oils/sugar to combine - this is key!)
