For those who either dont subscribe to the Weekly Email Update or may not yet be regular visitors to the site, here is some of what is new on the Official Al Jolson Website at jolson.org this week: Im happy to have been able to complete the website update on Sunday this week. It has been busier than usual this weekend, with the arrival of a new granddaughter in our family. For those who are so blessed, I dont have to tell you what such an event means. And for all of us, well sit down and relax a bit, to a little Jolson! MONTHLY SONGS: Some Brunswick numbers added to the hot July list, including one that has a legendary performance attached to its history. Check them out and enjoy. RADIO: In the summer of 1940, Al Jolson had his last Broadway show, Hold On To Your Hats, on the road before hitting New York. While in Chicago, he took the time to plug the show, and broadcast a horse race from Arlington Park. Here is Jolson out of the element with which we usually associate him, but in one of the sports he loved. This is just a tad under ten minutes long, but it is a great window into the world of Jolson! PODCAST: This weeks Podcast is from the 16 Jul 1940 broadcast from Arlington Park with Al Jolson. Appearing in Chicago promoting his last Broadway show then in preview, Al Jolson took time to call a race at the track. This is just the race, there is much more in the ten minute program. FEATURED PAGE: On July 14, 1939, 75 years ago this Monday, Rose of Washington Square made headlines as Fannie Brice sued over its content. Some of that content is the finest example of Jolson singing on film, and here is a look at one clip not a part of the movie. JOLSON ON TELEVISION: Just a month after a July screening, Turner Classic Movies will air this great movie with a wonderful Jolson segment in August this year, on August 12, at 11:45 a.m., EDT. That screening of Rhapsody in Blue will be followed by Night and Day, the fictionalized biography of Cole Porter, starring Cary Grant in the title role. INTERNET JOLSON RADIO: Debbie Eiflers Jolson and Friends Internet program is burning up the Internet, and she is approaching 175 regular listeners who have preset her station. You can join the fun.
