For those who followed my post on June 13 - The Hound Buggy is back home after three days at the shop. I went in with the following complaints - The front end felt overly bouncy, a loud knock in the right front wheel area when the vehicle weight shifted during a turn, many rattles while driving, serious grinding when on the brake during a turn, but only intermittently, a new noise in the right engine area at start up, but goes away after about 2 seconds. Overall, the ride sounded like the body was rubbing on the tops of the tires, and when a dip in the road was hit, felt like the body did scrape the tires. So.....$1980 later - found broken spring in the rear, replaced both springs and worn rear shocks. There is a plate (the name of the part escapes me at the moment) in the front above the struts which was very worn and was the cause of the knock on turns. Front sway bar bushings were worn. Even though the front struts only had 40,000 miles on them, it was suggested as long as the sway bar and plates were being replaced, struts should be done too - replaced both sides with a quick strut assembly. Serviced and cleaned brakes, oil change, two recalls on the ignition done, and all wheel alignment. The odd engine noise MAY be the timing chain, but is very minor at the moment....could go tomorrow, or in 20,000 miles. Will catch that as needed, but for now they cannot justify the cost of tearing apart the engine to replace the timing chain just yet. So after a near complete suspension rebuild between these repairs, and the sway bar bushings back in March, I get in the beast to come home and OMG....it drives like a dream!!!! So smooth it actually glides, and I even feel like I am sitting higher again. Turns beautifully without creaks, knocks, pops or groans. Feels rigid again with no play in the handling. So well worth its stay away from home :) 133,000 miles and counting....300,000, here I come!
