For those who have criticized or stated that the Amish community does not watch their children, let me be the first to tell that is wrong. One of the reasons that these children were found was because the family went to look for them when they did not return to the barn from the farm stand and the Mom walked a mile or so down the road to closest neighbor to call the police. When you judge, first ask yourself, how many times have you let your children outside to play, to sell lemonade, or something else, and then went to load the laundry, do dishes, whatever, with the thought that you would check on them in a minute only to find that many minutes had went by, what if this had happened to your child, would that make you a bad parent? Absolutely not..all of us try to be the best parents we can be and watch over our children and protect them, but in reality bad things happen in life no matter how much we try to stop them. The best thing that we can do is instead of judge, stand together, show support and aid in any way we can. And if you think this has not changed or affected the Amish community, you would be wrong. We have a lovely Amish family that resides not too far from us that has a roadside stand at which they sell delicious home grown vegetables and baked goods. It is normally run by their older children the younger ones will bring down produce in their little wagons to sell. These are happy children who know how to work, who give back , and are friendly whenever I meet them. Today when we went by the stand, instead of finding the children out there enjoying their Saturday, it was self serve. Now they will have a fear for the English and no doubt, they have a reason too, not only for what has happened to the two little girls, but also by the judgement that was passed upon them. So please everyone, unless YOU walk a day in someones shoes, do not judge them.
