For those who have not already heard, Tommy had an Ischemic Stroke on Tuesday night. That night we did not know it was a stroke. For less than 30 minutes, his legs collapsed on him and he could not stand or walk. He says he felt like he had concrete blocks on both feet and his legs felt heavy and weak. We immediately called the on call physician, and told him what had happened. He was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday morning, and we have spent several days at the hospital with thorough testing. They originally were thinking he only had a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack), but quickly changed this diagnosis, upon discovering that his carotid artery is partially blocked on both sides, with the left side showing an ulcerated plaque area. A neurologist who saw him at 2 pm. yesterday, failed to make her notes available to the his doctor at the hospital, and the vascular surgeon were waiting with their final evaluation. Nearly 4 hours later, the rest of the team reluctantly released him to go home. Long story, short. .he should have never been discharged. If he hadnt, he would have had surgery today most likely. After re-evaluating his test results, the team of doctors decided that immediate vascular surgery is necessary. because he has already had a stroke. He will be having the surgery within the next week. To say the least, we are thankful the re-evaluation was done, and that they did not close his case, and send him home to be treated with only medication. Our family was informed immediately, and a few close friends. He is doing well right now and seems to only be experiencing some weakness and instability in his right leg. Thank you all for your prayers and messages. Please keep Tommy in your prayers as this has been a stressful experience and he is facing the surgery that led him to this. We have felt Gods presence through it all and know that as the Great Physician, he will see it through.
