For those who think that the umpires made the right call last - TopicsExpress

For those who think that the umpires made the right call last night, I will admit that the call may have been technically correct. However, where was the technically correct call in the bottom on the 7th on Beltrans hit-by-pitch. Rule 6.08 of the MLB rulebook states: The batter becomes a runner and is entitled to first base without liability to be put out (provided he advances to and touches first base) when — ... (b) He is touched by a pitched ball which he is not attempting to hit UNLESS ... (2) The batter makes no attempt to avoid being touched by the ball. Here is the link to the rulebook: mlb.mlb/mlb/downloads/y2013/official_baseball_rules.pdf Beltran clearly made no attempt to avoid the pitch and was allowed to take first base. He ultimately scored on Hollidays double. If the umpires wanted to decide the game based upon technically correct calls, they should have not allowed him to reach first base. Had they made BOTH technically correct calls in the game, the call in the 9th would not have decided game 3 of the World Series. Rather, Craig would have only been the tying run.
