For those who use the phrase grand jury verdict: In the legal sense, verdict is only used to denote a decision on matters of fact by a jury at the conclusion of a trial; there isnt a good analogous term for the decision by a grand jury at the conclusion of a criminal investigation about whether charges will be filed (I once saw indictment used this way, in the Grand Jury entry in the 2008 second edition of Wests Encyclopedia of American Law, searchable on TheFreeDictionary, but usually its analogous to conviction rather than verdict), but decision is probably the best choice. Then again, maybe proper legal usage will follow journalistic pseudo-legal usage, allowing verdict to refer to decisions by both grand and trial juries.
