For those would like to see a bit of the fun I had this past weekend visiting cultural site around Sogamoso Colombia, here are some pictures. https://dropbox/sh/6sffy3bmn9idq2i/AAByR5Z4HA_6mV92b_Wr5ocOa?dl=0 A number of the pictures are from the anthropological museum here in the city. A replica of a Muisca village has been built near an actual burial site. The Muiscas were the indigenous people living in this region when the Spaniards arrived. The temple of sun was the major place of worship for the Muisca people who worshiped the sun. You can learn more about the Muisca at this link to wikipedia. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muisca_people The monument to the Lancers of the battle of Pantano de Varga is a tribute to an amazing military event. The pictures hardly do justice to the amazing detail, energy and intensity of the sculpture by Rodrigo Arenas Betancur. The link below to a very abbreviated description of the event doesnt begin to capture the heroism and sacrifice of these men with almost no clothes having traveled for days through the mountains and then immediately into the vanguard of an attack the Simon Bolivar said was the salvation of the liberty of the South Americans from the Spaniards. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vargas_Swamp_Lancers Lago de Tota is the largest lake in Colombia and the second largest lake in South America. It is surrounded by onion farms which grow beautifully due to the nature of the soil and the climate. The lake is at an altitude of about 9,600 feet where the average air temperature is about 10 degrees C (50 F) and the water about 40F. You can see in the pictures that some people actually go swimming. When the dance contest started I was taking a video and then got pulled into the activity by a young lady. I danced some Meringue and stepped out. Then the band began a piece in the rhythm of the local area and I got pulled in again! Iza is a territorial town that still has the flavor of the Spanish. Like most towns, it has a central park/plaza/town square where an open market takes place each Sunday. While I chose not to buy anything, I did take some pictures.
