For throw back Thursday...it is still Thursday here...a very old poem I wrote that I found today. I must have intended to submit it because of the artist statement, but I am pretty certain I didnt submit it...and if I did, it was not accepted. I dont submit much anymore, but it was fun to find this...if only because it was written on such a faulty premise about aging. In this case, however, I did get to see Glastonbury after writing the poem and it was even more magical than I had imagined. Goes to show you, we are never too old to dream. Artist Statement: I approach poetry in much the same way I paint and one often feeds the other. I hope to connect with the reader or viewer in ways that are magical, elicit a smile, a memory, an “oh yeah, I know that feeling”. This particular poem, “Tell Me”, was written in response to a poet I admire and speaks to my own aging, the realization that some things I hoped for, dreamed to see or experience someday are not likely to happen. Tell Me I ask you— you who are so good with words as Baez said— to tell me again about Glastonbury Tor, the footpaths and heather, Chalice Well gardens whose seeds, we know will never flower for me. I ask you once more to draw me with poetry the Gog and Magog, the sacred oaks and Bride’s Mound fire. And then on a night with the circle complete, plated in silver above a white spring, let me drink it all in while you tell me anew not about love but what I’m in love with you means.
