For today I will share what I taught in the PAW Convention:Subject: Respect Taught by: Evang. Johnnie B. Harris Pastor: Bishop Alfonso Madden Bible Point: Children Respect Your Parents and those that have rule over you Scripture: Ephesians 6: 1-3 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. (Ephesians 6:1-3 KJV) What is the meaning of Respect: The dictionary define Respect as meaning admiration, high opinion, esteem, value, reverence and regard. 1. What does respect mean to you? Respect your self, others and the property of all 2. Why is respect importance? Respect is an important thing to give and to receive. Respect shows that you think that the other person has value and that you want to show them that. 3. Why is Self Respect Important? We have heard the terms self respect and self esteem so much, that sometimes we wonder why is self respect so important anyway? Self respect is liking oneself and giving yourself To get respect it is very important to give respect. We can show respect to our parents and teachers or anybody else who is elder to us by listening to them and avoiding any sort of criticism. Even if some things are not acceptable to us, we should not shout, we should avoid arguments and try to analyze our own behavior. Why don’t you test yourself? Answer the questions below and see whether you are also guilty of showing disrespect to elders. There is no score or marking system; you alone are your own judge. -Do you enter a room and remember to greet every single person in the room, including elders? -When your friends come visiting, do you introduce them to your elders? [Even if it a simple nod or a ‘Hi’ and ‘Bye’, do not ignore elders.] -Do you raise your voice when you argue or do you stay calm? -Do you try to assume control of all activities at home – not telling your mother where you plan to go out, not letting your father listen to his favourite radio station, not seeking permission before changing the channels on TV? -Do you always stay absent on important days in the family? The blessing of The Lord be unto you. Have a great Day!!
