For todays Throwback Thursday photo, I reach back to August 1974 and a trip to the Pacific Northwest and my first ocean fishing trip out of Ilwaco, Washington. It was a memorable event, not just because of all the Coho (silver) salmon we caught, but because the rough waters finally got the best of me, if you know what I mean. When telling the whole story of that day I often describe the time between when my last fish was netted and when the captain of the charter boat finally headed back to the harbor - about 3+ hour time period - as one where on the one hand you think you are going to die and on the other hand you wish you could. Never been so sick in my life. Youll notice, however, that I was pretty healthy and happy looking back at camp. Yup, photos never lie. Oh, and by the way, that first ocean fishing trip, was also my last.
