For what its worth ....an opinion... Mooney picks Collingwood’s best 18 & says lay off Bucks Collingwood will need a lot to go right for them to make the finals this season as their young core gains more experience, says Cameron Mooney. The Pies won 11 games last year and with a poor percentage finished 11th in a season greatly affected by injuries to key players. “I don’t have them in the eight, but I don’t think it’s all doom and gloom like most other people,” said Mooney on SEN radio. “It’s something they’re going to have to seriously look at if players are going down this early in January, because their injuries have just been diabolical.” He also believes the expectations placed on coach Nathan Buckley are way too high given the personnel changes Mooney believes he had to make for the good of the club. “I think Collingwood supporters ride Buckley way too hard, they’ve got a great coach who is still learning the game,” added the former Cat. “They compare him to one of the greatest coaches of all time in Mick Malthouse.” Buckley has not been shy in giving his young players considerable responsibility, which should eventually pay dividends in the next few seasons. “Close to a dozen of the 17 guys he has debuted I would pencil in for 150 plus games,” he said. According to Mooney, one of the most important players for the Pies will be Ben Reid and supporters will be desperately hoping that a trip to Germany has prevented any more soft tissue injuries. “Reid is going to be the big key, a lot of people want him down back, but I want him up forward because White doesn’t come across to me as a good back up to Cloke,” explained Mooney. The Pies have a somewhat easier start to the season with their first three games against Brisbane, Adelaide and St Kilda.
