For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts (intense desires) of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error, while they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage. For if after they have escaped the pollution of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome , the later end is worse for them than the beginning. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way to righteousness than having known it, to turn from the holy command (instruction) delivered to them. COMMENTARY: Now you have certainly heard of the leaders of the temples predict the end of the world or the great cataclysmic war which always seems to be around the bend of time. You have heard it said by these same men that God will reward you if you give them money and these things never quite seem to happen. THEIR WORD CONTINUALLY RETURNS EMPTY. IT IS NOT MADE FLESH. The liberty of which scripture speaks is a liberty from the corrupt knowledge of the world which promises you many things but cannot save you from death and an eternity in which your mind, your spirit and your soul hunger and thirst for God whom you will see in all His glory but have no access to. And you will see the servants of God and ask them like a man thirsting for water for a drop and they will say to you, DEPART FROM ME YOU WORKER OF INIQUITY, I DO NOT KNOW YOU. There are many who when the calamity of life suddenly visits them will hope in God and He will answer and dispatch His servant to come to your aid and you will accept the loaves and fish but shrug your shoulders at His instruction for men come to the man and servant and son of God for the loaves and fish not perceiving the signs of God both in their lives and in Him. They will seek the benefits which God has given to the righteous but not the way and they will be tempted to follow their old knowledge and find themselves with the thought, I HAVE RETURNED LIKE A DOG TO HIS VOMIT AS THE TEACHER AND MAN OF GOD WARNED ME. The mind of a man is like a prison. It can only function in what it knows through familiarity of use. And unless a man be renewed in the knowledge by which his mind reasons he will continually find himself in the same place he has always created but only seven times worse. In another place in the scripture it informs you; A WORSE THING WILL HAPPEN TO YOU. God turns all men over to their disobedience that He might, should the man live, show you His mercy again for God will humble you that He might love you. There is no such thing as a voluntary humility. It is not possible for a man. His mind will not allow him to be humble for the mind of a man does not work that way. The mind of man is fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderfully does not mean complex or that its design is wonderful but that a man wonders constantly what will become of him in the uncertainty of time and the element of chance in his life. It is written time and chance happen to all men. You are admonished that the span of your life is three score and 14 years and a little longer because of strength. You are instructed to seek God while you are young before the days of evil come when the mind and body are exhausted and you cannot endure what a man must to come to knowledge of the truth. Man is not made a child of God, he must be conformed to the image which God has imagined. And the empty words of the false prophets cannot help you for the kingdom of heaven is a kingdom of powers, principalities and rulers of darkness and the battle is unseen. It is a spiritual battle and unless a man makes himself known to God through a one time perfect offering, he will be fooled, deceived and corrupted and shall not know peace in the eternity of existence and will certainly not be transformed into the image of the son of God for this and only this is the will of God and the purpose of being disciple to one who has been given the revelation of the truth of the Holy Spirit of God.
