For years I have been practicing Qigong and Taiji (Tai Chi), and have undertaken higher Qigong training through a number of Masters (Sifu) of Qigong and Taiji (Tai Chi) from China. One Master in particular was from Wudang in China, and my Doctoral thesis in Public Health was based upon the perceptions of the clients who were accessing his Chinese medicine clinics for their Chronic disease treatments, and what they perceived the health benefits of the Chinese medicine treatments they had received were and how effective they considered it to be. . Additionally I have completed the - Living Dao 1 course via his teachings, and during this course I was exposed to different forms of Daoist (Taoist) Qigong meditations. I have qualifications to teach both Qigong and Taiji (Tai Chi): these being: - 8 Form Qigong for Health and Fitness - Mulan Qigong Instructor (Exercise Medicine, Sydney) - Tai Chi for Health and Falls Prevention Instructor (Exercise Medicine, Sydney) More information about Exercise medicine @ exercisemedicine.au/ Other Qigong and Taiji (Tai Chi) lessons I have been participating in on a regular basis is via attending classes which teach Dr Paul Lams Tai Chi for Diabetes (TCD), Tai Chi for Osteoporosis (TCO), Tai Chi for Arthritis (TCA), and Qigong for health. More information about Dr Lams Tai Chi for Health Institute @ taichiforhealthinstitute.org/ One of the reasons I undertake these exercises is from a health prevention perspective. The following website will provide you with information relating to the health benefits of Taiji (Tai Chi) @ betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcarticles.nsf/pages/Tai_chi_-_health_benefits The attached video is an example of one of the types of Qigong meditation exercises that I have been practicing. I come from a bloodline of Energy medicine healers from Torres Straits, and through understanding what they were able to do, I can see that historically the use of Energy medicine is not foreign to our Torres Strait islander peoples practices for maintaining health and well-being. My fathers (Mr Seaman Dan) mother, my grandmother Kitty Ware (nee Savage) was a traditional healer from the Torres Straits and energy medicine was one of the methods she utilised in her healing methods. In my opinion not enough health research has been undertaken in our Torres Strait community on the effectiveness of the use of not only traditional medicines, but the traditional healing methods that our people utilise.
