For years Ive used TurboTax to file my taxes. You can use it for free but they nail you with $17.99 minimum to print, save or file your return. How stupid - its YOUR RETURN - I could see charging you to process the return but not for the privilege of owning your own tax file! NEVER AGAIN I told myself and noticed a new player on the Canada Revenue Agency approved software list - Simple Tax (simpletax.ca) I was shocked to see that it is the only 100% FREE income tax software Canada has ever seen. I used it and TurboTax side by side and both calculated identically to the penny. Then I was able to print the file, save it AND NETFILE it to CRA - all 100% FREE - and I have ALREADY RECEIVED MY REFUND. I have no connection to the software or its designer but was stunned when I had an issue using a certain screen on my iPhone - and the owner/designer wrote me and said he had personally FIXED THE GLITCH (2 hours or less after I brought it up) and thanked me for pointing it out. Had two further How To questions - both answered personally, same-day and perfectly thanks to the same designer. CANADA - theres now a way to input your information, see your refund AND NETFILE with Canada Revenue Agency (again, it is on their approved software list) - and its all ABSOLUTELY 100% FREE and easy to use. They make their money by donation only - the same way, you might recall, that MOZILLA started years ago. I say more power to them!
