For years now the Maghaberry Administration has refused to house a number of Republican Prisoners on the Republican Landings of Roe House. This agenda determines that selected Republican Prisoners are forced to live in an isolation/segregation unit despite them being allocated housing on the Republican Landings by their Republican Leaderships. This process deliberately undermines the Republican Structures in place. It is a form of psychological torture and the most excessive abuse of a Republican Prisoners rights to : segregation, free association and movement. Until recently the policy seemed confined to the environs of Maghaberry however last week it became clear that the Maghaberry Administration via the Six County Prison Service have escalated the process to impede upon the rights of Republican Prisoners held in Prisons elsewhere in Ireland. At the beginning of 2014 Twenty-Six County Minister for (in)Justice Alan Shatter approved the transfers of Two Republican Prisoners from Port Laoise Gaol to Maghaberry. The Six County Prison Service then provided both Prisoners with a date of transfer. Following a sustained period of legal wrangling both transfers were approved on the soundest of legal and humanitarian grounds. Housing for both men was approved at the commencement of the application. Last week as the date of transfer elapsed the Six County Prison service informed the 26 County Prison Service that they could not accept transfers to Roe House citing severe accommodation pressures and stating they would review the situation in May. Since that denial a number of prison welfare representatives including spokespeople for the relevant structures in Roe House have spoken to solicitors representing both Republicans. They have confirmed that the Administration is lying to them. They have stated that even when the issue of accommodation pressure arises there are methods in place, operated by Republicans, to alleviate said pressures and secure the rights of their prisoners. The Maghaberry administration has no right to undermine those methods. The Maghaberry Administration is no longer merely undermining Republican Structures and lying to Prisoners in the way they have been for years to control internal Maghaberry movement. They are now undermining official legislation i.e. the Transfer of Prisoner act 1995 (97) they are now misleading the Prison administration and lying to the Justice department of an allegedly sovereign state and doing so to revoke the human rights of Republican Prisoners. The only way in which this policy can be challenged by Republicans is cohesively and so we ask that all Republicans support the campaign to have these men returned home and housed by their comrades as Republican Prisoners of War.
