Force protection is a constant priority and a cooperative effort. In light of the recent terrorist activity in Paris and last week’s foiled plot in Belgium, it’s important that we all stay focused on personal safety and security measures. A vigilant community is one of the best lines of defense against terrorism as well. If you see anything unusual or suspicious, report it immediately to the law-enforcement desk DSN 489-6060/7070 or commercial 0631-536-6060/7070. Please consider the following: • Stay informed about current potential threats. Visit travel.state.gov/ and check for advisories before traveling to other countries. • Know where your family members are and have a plan to stay in touch. • Make sure a friend or co-worker knows your travel plans. • Make sure you have a list of emergency numbers at each of your home phones and programmed in to your mobile phones. • Avoid wear or display of items that clearly indicate that you are a U.S. citizen. • Be unpredictable. Vary routines such as routes and departure times to and from work. • Instruct your family and associates not to provide strangers with information about you or your family. • Assume the whole world will see what you what you post on social media and take appropriate cautions. • Apply the same operational security considerations to social media interaction that you would use elsewhere. • Dont speculate on the threat and force protection posture in public, you may be feeding the rumor mill. Thank you all for doing your part to stay safe and to look after the safety of our entire community.
