Forecast Update for todays storm: Upper-level low is taking an unfavorable track for much snowfall in the Denver area. The storms trajectory and speed will quickly turn the flow downslope over the Denver/Boulder area this afternoon and that will really limit the snowfall accumulation. Light rain/snow is currently moving into parts of the metro area. Latest model data indicates a brief period of snow over the Denver/Boulder area, primarily from 9am - 2pm. At this point I think areas east of I-25 (from DIA to downtown Denver) will only get a Trace-0.5 of snow. Closer to the foothills, west of I-25 expecting 1-3, with highest totals over south Denver and closer to the Palmer Divide (Im only thinking around 1 at my house). While the northwest flow is garbage for the Denver area, its a more favorable wind-direction for snowfall at the I-70 ski areas. As of this morning Im seeing reports of 8 at Breck, 5 at Vail, 5 at Keystone, 7 at Winter Park, 8 at Wolf Creek, ect. Snow will continue in the northern mountains today through this evening, ending tomorrow morning. Looks like 6-15 storm totals at the I-70 ski areas. Today and tomorrow will be good powder days. Image below shows forecast total snowfall over Colorado by 6am tomorrow, its just an estimate (likely overdone in some spots) but gives an idea where the heavier snow will fall. More snow coming to the mountains this week.
