Forecast is updated at burkeweather.org. Lots of snow for the mountains in this forecast package. Skiers delight up in the high country. Be sure to hit the slopes for some fresh powder. For the foothills I have added a winter mix back into the forecast for Monday. The winter mix would only be in the morning before temps warm above freezing, changing all precipitation over to rain. Interestingly enough the further East you go the better chance that you will have at seeing snow that will amount to anything. Even there though I dont see much in the way of accumulations. All precipitation will be light. This is a fast moving, but strong, Alberta Clipper system. Low pressure will then develop and rapidly deepen off the Carolina Coast, then move North. This will likely be a very strong Noreaster. Most of the NE from the Delmarva to New Jersey could see near blizzard conditions at times. This is also the system that will indirectly cause the mountains snowfall. NW flow behind the departing low pressure will drag moisture South from the Great Lakes and bank it up against the West side of the Mountains. I know our friends up at Ski Beech Mountain are looking forward to this. This is also an important system for us in the lower elevations as it lays the ground work for what could be the coldest air of this Winter to move in through the first part of February. The southern jet stream stays active and now we will have the cold air. We just have to get the two to collide. Once they do whomever is under the snow could get very high snowfall accumulations. Now that being said, I am not watching a particular storm right now, just the pattern. #burkewx #ncwx #snOMG -Chris
