Hurriyat (M) to organize seminar on Jan 5 Srinagar, Jan 3 (KNS): Hurriyat Conference (M) would organize a seminar titled “UN resolutions and Kashmir’s right to self determination,” on January 5 (Monday) at 11 am at its Rajbagh Headquarters here. In a statement a spokesman of the Hurriyat (M) said the seminar is being conducted to divert the attention of the world community towards the insensitiveness and inaction of UN for not implementing its resolutions passed on Kashmir despite the passage of 66 long years. The UN adopted the resolutions on Kashmir on January 5, 1949. The seminar, scheduled to be conducted at Hurriyat (M) headquarters, would be convened by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. Eminent Hurriyat (M) leaders and general public would also participate in the event, he said. Terming the ‘callousness and inaction’ of UN towards solving the Kashmir issue as an ‘intentional effort’ to overlook the sufferings of Kashmiris, Mirwaiz said that global community should realize that Kashmir has become a nuclear flash point which could anytime explode and lead to devastation of South Asia. On the eve of completion of 66 years since UN adopted resolutions and recognized Kashmir as a disputed territory, Mirwaiz stressed upon UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon and other global leadership that it is due to lingering Kashmir dispute that two nuclear armed countries, India and Pakistan, have fought several wars and the war like situation persists in South Asia. He said due to escalation of tensions on LoC, innocent Kashmiris were becoming victims of violence on both side of the disputed line. The Hurriyat (M) chairman said that in the last 68 years, Kashmiris have lost more than one lakh people, “wanton suppression left army of orphans and widows, unmarked graves dotted the landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, and thousands of cases enforced disappearances surfaced besides hundreds of Kashmiri men were lodged in Jails inside and outside Kashmir.” “Despite passing of 66 years of UN resolutions on Kashmir, Mirwaiz said it was highly unfortunate and a matter of concern that the world body was unable to implement its resolution. In the same time period new countries like East Timor and South Sudan came into existence over the world map, besides Britain held a referendum in Scotland thereby giving right to Scottish people to decide their political future,” he said. “The double standard of International community on Kashmir issue has added to the sufferings of Kashmiris and emboldened the Indian leadership to continue their military occupation by hook or crook,” Mirwaiz alleged. Meanwhile, Hurriyat spokesman has demanded immediate release of hundreds of youth who have been arrested in Baramulla under the garb of elections. He alleged that the government was playing with the future of youngsters by denying them the right to education Omar deriving ‘sadistic pleasure’ over intensification of violence on borders: PDP Srinagar, Jan 3 (KNS): Reacting sharply to Omar Abdullah`s criticism of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) peace efforts, the party Saturday said the former Chief Minister is deriving sadistic pleasure over intensification of violence on borders between India and Pakistan in an attempt to score points with the supporters of peace. “By saying ‘Mufti`s dream of early Indo –Pak dialogue was crashing’ with apparent reference to the latest ceasefire violation on borders, Omar has not only added insult to the injury of the millions of people who want peace in the region but has repeated his family line of thinking which calls for bombardment as the only viable solution to solve the Kashmir problem,” the party Chief Spokesperson, Naeem Akhtar said in a statement. He said that somebody who has served as a Chief Minister and the country’s Foreign Minister should use this language is appalling. He said Omar through his latest Tweet has exposed the shallowness of his thought and his inability to even hide it. Akhtar said to see peace and prosperity in the entire South Asian region is not only Mufti Mohammed Sayeed`s dream, but everybody who has suffered immensely because of the ongoing enmity between India and Pakistan wants to see end of their sufferings through dialogue and amicable resolution of political problems. “Mufti Sahib only shares and channelizes the feelings of generations of people living in the state in constant fear of war, suffering dislocation, destruction and loss of life,” Akhtar said. The PDP Chief spokesperson said the 2003 Vajpayee initiative had played a significant role in soothing the relations between India and Pakistan and had given a hope among the common masses in the institution of dialogue but everything got derailed when the National Conference led- coalition took over the reins of the state in 2009 under the leadership of Omar Abdullah. Akhtar said peace and reconciliation constitute the core features of the PDP’s agenda and it believes that establishment of durable and dignified peace alone can pull this region out of the economic distress. Akhtar said the National Conference has exploited many generations in the state just to keep itself in power and when it has been rejected thoroughly by the people it has apparently joined the advocates of violence and hawkish politics in order to find relevance.
