Forget the Indiana Jones style of artifact hunting! Real archeology is sweaty, methodical, hard on the knees, slow and bug-infested. But the rewards are worth the slog. When you see something in a museum, it’s not the same. A tiny shard of pottery or a small arrowhead like the one I found might appear insignificant. It certainly doesn’t seem as impressive as a giant fresco or sculpture. But when you dig it out the ground, even the smallest arrowhead or bone feels more exciting, because it is your “find.” There is that personal sense of connection to history. - Tamara Baluja
