Forgive me interrupting the accelerating bustle of Christmas, but Id appreciate some feedback on Dean Hoffmans latest draft of the 1974 recovered Out of Town episode Seasons in the garden The original film (sorry if you know this already) material comprises two separate media - 16mm location film by Stan Bréhaut and an 1/4 reel-to-reel tape containing Jacks commentary. There is no complete recording of an episode like those we had when bringing the commercially available OOT flms to market two years ago. This stuff is a bit of a mess! To Stans film, a studio editor, probably David Knowles, back in 1974, developed it as reverse negative then added library sound effects to match events in the film. A magnetic tape containing these sounds is attached to the film. Jack did not go on ocation with a sound crew; just Stan and sometimes George Egan, director. The first challenge is to digitise film and tape; the next is to synchronise them. The next challenge, given theres no picture of the studio shed from which Jack broadcast is to select stills or some other kind of fill-in to accompany my stepfathers commentary on the sound tape. Next its necessary to top and tail the episode with theme music, original titles and credits - images that do not exist in the material from the archive. Dean has been up-loading successive versions of the programme to google docs. Ive downloaded his latest to Vimeo vimeo/115267773 If youd like to see it message me for the password. For those whove seen previous drafts and already given opinion and advice, the password is the same as for those previous drafts of Seasons in the garden If we can get thia recovery process refined
