Forgive the long post, please.... I started running in 2007 and since 2008 I did the majority of my fundraising for Parkinsons charities, as my Nan had the condition. She sadly passed away in 2013, having had Parkinsons for around 15 years. Ive think about her most of the time I run, as she was the inspiration of most of runs Ive ever done. The #AdventRunning challenge of running 25 runs in 25 days has connected me, in a very small, minor way, with my Nans experience, but has really made me admire her stoicism and resilience even more. All I had to do was jog about for 30 minutes a day, whereas she has to slog through 15 years of a progressively physically challenging condition. I have moaned a few times about finding the time to run, and Im ashamed to say that although Ive made up the time Ive missed a couple of days along the way. My Nan never had the option, and I never once heard her complain or moan about her condition, or ask why me. Its true to say that shes my running inspiration, and if its not too indulgent, Id like to dedicate the 11 miles I did today, like I dedicate every run, to my Nan. Im probably missing her more this time of year, and thats another reason why Im probably thinking about her. I never told her how much I admired her strength, and how much she inspired me while she was still here, so if you have a running inspiration, and youre lucky enough to still have them with you, tell them this Christmas. People never get the roses while they can smell them. Sorry again for the long post! Much love this Christmas. x
