Forgiveness and reconciliation are at the heart of what it means - TopicsExpress

Forgiveness and reconciliation are at the heart of what it means to be a Christian. If this is true, why then is it so hard to forgive others? Could it be because we’ve neglected the forgiveness we’ve been extended by God? In the parable of the unforgiving servant in Matthew 18 we see a man released from billions of dollars debt he couldn’t pay turn around and demand reimbursement from another who owed him only a few thousand. It is as if the man completely forgot about having been forgiven of his enormous debt. It is easy to condemn this unmerciful man’s actions, but the parable is meant to illustrate the condition of the heart of anyone who, having been forgiven themselves, isn’t able to extend forgiveness to others. When we lose sight of the significance of Christ’s forgiveness of us for our sins, we become prideful and quick to point out the fault in others. God, may forgiveness come from my broken heart as quickly and freely as it did from your perfect heart when you died on the cross for my selfish desires and misguided pursuits. Let me never forget the great forgiveness you showed me on the cross in taking on a debt of sin that I could never pay back. May I alway extend your forgiveness to others for your glory and praise.
