Forklift Operator on 2nd and 3rd Shift Kroger Manufacturing - Irving, TX OPERATIONS POSITION DESCRIPTION Job Title: Forklift Operator Date: 01/01/2013 Location: America’s Beverage Company Department: Distribution Reporting RelationshipTitle Reports to: Distribution Supervisor Primary Work Location: Distribution Area Summary: Lift Truck Operators are responsible for reading picking documents, pulling the correct product and properly loading this product on the appropriate truck while always operating the lift in a safe and efficient manner. These operators must be able to understand and carry out the product rotation program. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned: 1. Learn and utilize PRISM System in an accurate manner. 2. Cross-trained in all areas to assist with break and lunch relief. 3. Support the Safety Quality and Reliability of the Plant and Team. 4. Maintain the warehouse in a clean condition. Including sweeping, moping, and scrubbing. 5. If assigned to the production line, the lift truck operator must make labels, keep the line supplied with raw materials and remove and properly place the finished product. (This must be done safely and expeditiously to maximize line efficiency while minimizing damage and risks.) 6. Must be flexible as to shift and scheduling due to frequently changing production and scheduling needs. General: 1. Follow all Plant policies and procedures. 2. Maintain a high work ethic. 3. Keep open line of communication with peers, supervisors and management. 4. Complete all paperwork as needed. 5. Perform all other duties as assigned by leads and supervisor. 6. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times. 7. Be available for overtime and call-ins. 8. Maintain effective communication with the Department Team Lead through conversations, reports, and meetings. 9. Be able to analyze problems and suggest effective solutions. 10. Must be able to follow, interpret, modify, distribute, and account for the distribution schedule. 11. Must be able to perform all distribution tasks while following procedures. 12. Must have knowledge of policies related to Safety and GMP’s. 13. Must maintain distribution supplies at the prescribed levels so that the line does not shut down for lack of materials. Labor Control: 1. Work shifts as scheduled. 2. Achieve established benchmarks by working with a sense of urgency. 3. Work overtime only with supervisor’s approval. Supply Control: 1. Control excessive use of supplies. 2. Strive to meet or exceed distribution goals. Inventory Control: 1. Fill out all paperwork neatly and accurately. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge required. Education and/or experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to three months related experience, training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language skills: Ability to read and interpret work orders, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to fill out routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively and convey information to other employees. Mathematical skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers. Reasoning ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Physical demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Operator must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, and lift to replace damaged cases on pallets. These cases range in weight from 22-55 lbs. Hand stacking of the cases is also expected in the event of an equipment breakdown. This involves lifting cases ranging in weight from 22-55 lbs. and stacking them on pallets. The stacking range is from floor level to approximately 70 inches. The stacking speeds could be as high as 22 cases/min on the bottle line and 40 cases/min on the can line. Work environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Regularly works with and near moving mechanical equipment. Is exposed to slippery surfaces in Production areas. Is exposed to noise level in the work environment which is usually loud and requires wearing hearing protection (Production / Palletizer areas) Climbing on and off forklift. Work schedules: The workweek could vary depending upon production requirements. It may include Saturdays, Sundays, or Holidays with a specific weekday or rotating day off.
