Form 3 Zaka pupil commits suicide in school yard By Theresa Takafuma A Form three Zaka pupil reportedly committed suicide in the school yard on closing day evening after the headmaster refused to give him his school report. Delight Makuvaza of Mutimwi High School in Zaka hanged himself in a hill near the school after the headmaster Taurai Masekeni had allegedly withheld his school report. His body was found hanging from a Musasa tree in the hill by another pupil at the school who was fetching firewood at around 4pm on the same day. Makuvaza is alleged to have insulted Tinashe Maguyana, a teacher at the school and the headmaster had sent him home to bring his guardians for a disciplinary hearing. Sources at the school, however, said Makuvaza only made some noise during the school closing ceremony, which angered the headmaster. They said Makuvaza stayed with his uncle who is believed to be once a mental patient as he used to severely punish the boy whenever he received an indiscipline report especially from school. Makuvaza is said to have returned to the school to negotiate with the headmaster to give him his report in vain. Efforts to get a comment from the headmaster were fruitless as his mobile phone was unreachable until the time to go to press. Masvingo provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Nkululeko Nduna confirmed the incident and said no foul play is suspected. Asst Insp Nduna urged school pupils to seek counselling from school authorities and elders whenever they have problems.
