Formed in 1972 by ex-Free bass player Andy Fraser and ace session - TopicsExpress

Formed in 1972 by ex-Free bass player Andy Fraser and ace session guitarist Chris Spedding, the business was expecting a lot from Sharks. But although their debut album and live gigs were critically acclaimed, Fraser was having second thoughts and quit. Nick Judd, ex-Audience pianist (and my brother-in-law) was recruited and various bass players considered including Tom Robinson, Ric Grech, Boz Burrell and myself. Spedding gave me the impression I was the favoured candidate but a fuming vibe suggested vocalist Steve ‘Snips’ Parsons didn’t agree. An hour in his company – 41 years ago today – was enough to understand why Andy Fraser had abandoned the project and why Robinson, Grech, Burrell and I should all be glad we hadn’t landed the job, which went, instead, to Busta Cherry Jones, an unknown American recommended by Mick Jagger. Sharks’ line-up never settled down and they folded a year later, potential unfulfilled and barely remembered apart from Chris Spedding who, a few months later, scored this Top Twenty solo hit with “Motorbikin’” (trivial stuff for a man with his ability) before re-booting a successful and still thriving session career. https://youtube/watch?v=7Juz4W9yEYA
