Former AAP leader Shazia Ilmi Former Aam Aadmi Party leader Shazia Ilmi will campaign for the BJP in the Delhi Assembly elections to be held on February 7. Ilmi had quit the AAP last year, accusing the party of lacking democracy within and its chief Arvind Kejriwal of cultivating cronies around him. She had recently joined Prime Minister Narendra Modis pet Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, raising speculations of her joining the saffron party. Ilmi had contested the 2013 Delhi Assembly elections from the RK Puram constituency which she lost to BJPs Anil Sharma by a thin margin of 326 votes. She also lost the 2014 general elections from Ghaziabad against former Army chief General VK Singh. Towards the end of the last year, there were rumours that the BJP might field Ilmi from the New Delhi Assembly seat against AAP chief Kejriwal. The BJP has not declared its candidates for the Delhi elections yet. Ilmis decision to campaign for the BJP provoked a sharp reaction from the Congress. In a sting Shazia Ilmi wanted people to become communal, taking it a step further she joins BJP a party which believes in the same ideology, Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi tweeted.
