Former Cheyenne Mountain High School star Brandon McCarthy (class of 2002) is leaving the Yankees. He has signed with the Dodgers for 4 years and $48 million. McCarthy & his model wife Amanda met in high school and were introduced to each other by my friend and fellow coach and C.M.H.S. grad Ian Ahrendsen (soon to be wed himelf). McCarthy is part of a strong baseball and sports tradition at C.M.H.S. that includes Rachel Flatt, Bret Helton, Todd Gossage, Canyon Barry, and dozens more. Here is video of the moment all of us who have kids who pitch fear the most... a linedrive comebacker to the mound. McCarthy was struck on the right side of his head and suffered an epidural hemorrhage, brain contusion and skull fracture. He had two hours of surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. He spent days in a life-threatening. condition. Love that he pitched for the White Sox and has come back from the brain injury. A few photos of him and Amanda as well.
