Former Colorado public school teacher, Tom Tancredo, challenges Hickenlooper to debate billion-dollar tax Increase. Hickenlooper wants a tax increase. Tancredo wants to lead Colorado back to days of prosperity. (DENVER) – Over two weeks ago, Governor John Hickenlooper, whispered his support for a billion dollar tax increase on the people of Colorado while behind closed doors with political insiders. His claim is that the billion-dollar tax increase will benefit education in Colorado. Former Colorado public school teacher, and now gubernatorial candidate, Tom Tancredo says, “I’d be one of this proposals biggest supporters if I believed for a moment that the funds would really improve the quality of education for our kids. I don’t!” Tancredo has a unique perspective and deep knowledge regarding education in Colorado. He is a former Colorado public school teacher who taught Civics at Drake Junior High. Then after serving in the Colorado State Legislature, he was chosen by the Ronald Reagan Administration as the Secretary of Education’s Regional Representative. Tancredo was reappointed to this Department of Education post by President George H.W. Bush. With Tancredo’s unique perspective on education, he is challenging Hickenlooper to debate this billion-dollar tax increase saying, “Gov. Hickenlooper, I’m challenging you to a debate, or a series of debates, on this tax increase proposal. You can name the time! You can name the place! Let’s get the facts out there so the people of this State can make an informed decision.” (CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO AUDIO via https://soundcloud/tomtancredo ) Following Gov. Hickenlooper’s secretive endorsement of this billion-dollar tax increase, he has done little to explain his support to the citizens of Colorado. Hickenlooper’s staff did send a brief text message to Colorado media confirming his support but has not provided a direct statement from the Governor. When Hickenlooper did briefly comment in public, he admitted that the tax increase would be “steep”. Tancredo says, “This is no time for ‘drive-by’ economic policies. A real leader should explain and clarify why he wants to reach further into the pockets of Coloradans. Our economy continues to sputter and unemployment remains too high. You can’t say you want to tax us all more and then ‘go dark’. Where’s the true leadership?” “The people of Colorado deserve better,” Tancredo continued, “They deserve a full explanation as to why they should give up more income. This is truly just another big government, tax & spend proposal. It’s no wonder that Denver Post is asking in their headlines if ‘Hick has lost his moderate mojo’. His support of this billion-dollar tax increase is just one more piece of evidence.” The Tancredo debate challenge stands and the Tancredo campaign is now awaiting word from Hickenlooper’s office regarding the date & location for this public debate and discussion.
