Former Congressman Allen West decried the lack of leadership President Barack Obama displayed Tuesday night during his address and wondered where his sense of outrage was at other, similar inhumane events. “President Obama stated at the end of his 16-minute speech, ‘terrible things happen across the globe….we should act, that’s what makes America exceptional,’” West quoted. “I find his words utterly disgusting because tomorrow we will remember four Americans who were abandoned by President Obama to die in Libya.” I find the president’s words disingenuous for yet another reason — his portrayal of the United States as an “exceptional” nation. It was only a year ago that the Obama opined, “I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism.” When everyone is exceptional, no one is exceptional. West continued: “I found no righteous indignation and call for a moral obligation to avenge and punish their Islamic terrorist murderers – matter of fact, Obama called it a ‘phony scandal,’” he noted. West wondered where the president’s sense of rage and call to action was following previous atrocities in the Middle East. Christians are being butchered daily, where is his outrage? Israel is taking rocket and missile fire, where is his outrage? Some 100,000 Syrians had been killed by conventional munitions, and this was not the first chemical attack, where was his outrage? West then noted the depiction of impotence that his “lead from behind” approach to his administration presents to the rest of the world. “Obama has shown incompetence and weakness and has not presented a credible threat to Assad and Putin,” he said. “If he wanted to respond he could have, God knows he did not seek congressional approval for Libya.” West’s final assessment was a failing grade. “He has been strategically outmaneuvered by Putin, lost the initiative, and allowed Putin to look like a statesman while he looks like a confused community organizer.” On Tuesday, the White House marked the one-year anniversary of Benghazi by promising justice for the four American lives lost there — Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods. It’s difficult to take the president seriously when, one year after the tragedy the administration seems incapable of finding the terrorist leaders CNN reporters interview for TV.
