Former Grand Prix ace Jacques Laffite was born on this day in 1943. The Frenchman – known to many British fans as Jack Lafferty – was active in F1 from 1974-86. He won six races, all while driving for Ligier. A hugely popular figure in the pitlane, he once arrived for the 7am race-day warm-up at Detroit still wearing his pyjamas.
