Former Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is still getting backlash for his decision to cut in half the prison sentence of a woman who killed her husband by setting him on fire while he slept. Madison County States Attorney Tom Gibbons told the State Journal-Register that he doesnt understand why Tammy Englerths 40-year sentence was reduced without notice to his office. Quinn offered no explanation earlier this week for making Englerth eligible for parole in 2025 rather than in 2045. Meanwhile, Cook County States Attorney Anita Alvarez is also upset that Quinn commuted the sentences of two inmates convicted for murder and a man who wounded several Chicago police officers during a shoot-out.
