Former Jon and His Ma Book Club selection “Serena” is bound for the movie screen. No surprise. When Ma and I read it, we predicted a movie was inevitable. We tossed names back and forth of actresses we thought had the balls to pull off the role of rapacious timber baron. The filmmakers went with Jennifer Lawrence. Oy. First “Winter’s Bone,” now this. That girl is developing a knack for screwing up good redneck novels.
