Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has told talkSPORT that Arsenal must pay at least £50million to sign Luis Suarez. The Gunners have so far bid just £40million and £1, which was dismissed by the Reds’ principal owner John W Henry with disdain, after pursuing the wantaway Uruguayan. And he reckons that, in the current transfer market, Arsene Wenger must up their offer if it is to be considered seriously at Anfield. Asked about how much Liverpool should sell the player for, Aldridge said: “I think you have to go back to when Fernando Torres went to Chelsea. His goal-to-game ratio was good but not as good as Luis Suarez’s. “Alright, he’s got a bit of baggage and anyone who takes him will have to bear that in mind but look at his team-mate for Uruguay, Edinson Cavani, he’s just gone to Paris Saint-Germain for £55million. “I think, from a personal view, he’s got to be worth £50million and £1. “That might appease Liverpool fans albeit they can’t be happy if you sell him to a club you’re trying to pass to get into the Champions League. It’s difficult enough as it is.” And Aldridge has slammed the Uruguayan for the way he has tried to force a move away from Liverpool to Arsenal. He added: “A move to Arsenal would be contradictory. He came out with two or three reasons about why he wanted to leave. “His wife wasn’t happy with people taking snaps of them. Then he blamed the press, so now he’s going to live next to Fleet Street if he goes to Arsenal. And finally he wants to play in the Champions League. “We all know he wants to play in the Champions League. You can’t deprive great players like Luis Suarez that. It’s just the manner he’s gone about it.”
