Former President, Sir Ketumile #Masire, caused a stir with his speech at the funeral of the late BMD leader, Gomolemo Motswaledi, on Friday with some people suggesting that Masire endorsed the UDC. Speaking in his trademark idiomatic Setswana, #Masire reminded the mourners that Botswana was founded on the principle of a multi party democratic system whereby a ruling party could be in opposition in future and the opposition was a government in waiting. Masire said he was happy to observe that there were capable people in both the ruling party and the opposition, such that the country will still move forward should Batswana lose confidence in the current government. To a loud applause, Masire pointed out that #Motswaledi did not work alone as there were those within the UDC who will continue with what he started. A number of #UDC supporters who spoke to Gabz FM News after Masires speech, said the statesmans laid bare his endorsement of the party and was basically urging Batswana to vote for the Umbrella in the October elections. Meanwhile, President Ian Khama has apologised to the BCP president Dumelang #Saleshando. When addressing a star rally in Mopipi this weekekend Khama in his capacity as Kgosi Kgolo of Bangwato apologised to Saleshando for the uncouth behaviour displayed by some at his home village of Serowe at Motswaledis funeral and emphasised #BOTHO.
