Former Principal, Doregos College, Lagos, Mr. Olajide Adebayo, has charged parents to be involved in providing extra tutoring for their children to compliment what they learnt at school. Adebayo made this call at the prize giving day and valedictory service of BOLS International Schools, Ipaja, Lagos. In a paper titled, “The Roles and Responsibilities of Parents in Child Development,” he blamed child delinquency on the inability of parents to tutor their children at home. Adebayo urged parents to pay frequent visits to their children in schools to monitor their progress and possibly interact with teachers and school authority. He also enjoined them to take the young ones out on weekends for fun activities. This, he said, would help to quicken their cognitive domain, not only for academic, but also for social and physical attachment. In her welcome address, the Proprietress, Chief Mrs. Mojisola Onitiri, acknowledged the cooperation of parents and teachers towards the development of the school. She said the school would not relent in its effort to produce future ambassadors for the country. Onitiri enjoined the graduands not to be influenced negatively but uphold their integrity and virtues. The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards and prizes to pupils and teachers who distinguished themselves during the outgoing academic session. Latifat Lawal emerged the overall best graduating pupils after she won five prizes as the best pupil in Yoruba Language, Government, Commerce, Accounts and Food and Nutrition. She also picked the award as the best graduating pupil in the Commercial Department. Suzanne Abiri was the best in Science while Gift Duru emerged the best in Arts. In S.S.1, Esther Owoniyi emerged as the overall best after coming first in Further Mathematics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Geography, English Language, Agricultural Science and Yoruba Language. posted on August 16, 2013 at 12:00AM jtnng.blogspot/
