# Former Seleka denies massacres in northern villages, government confirms # Central African Republic (CAR) provisional government confirmed the massacres in northern villages by gunmen who presumed to be former Seleka fighters over the last few days. Government Spokesman Anicet Guiyama Mazogo told Xinhua Saturday over phone, Indeed, there have been attacks which killed about 30 people, a likely operation perpetrated by former Seleka (fighters). But former Seleka spokesman Juma Narkoyo told Xinhua, No incident or attack has occurred in the northern villages. The people who were hiding in the bush for fear of war have returned to their villages. A local official while being contacted said there is no massacre, only two young people were killed during small conflict between former Seleka and anti-Balaka. A civil war in CAR broke out on Dec. 10, 2012 between Seleka rebel coalition and government forces. Seleka took power from then president Francois Bozize in March 2013 and the rebels leader Michel Djotodia declared himself as president. Elected provisional president by a National Transitional Council in April 2013, Djotodia was forced to quit power in January this year amid worsening violence between Christian anti- balaka group and Muslim Seleka. Catherine Samba-Panza was elected as provisional president by the National Transitional Council. Samba-Panza appointed Mahamat Kamoun, former minister of state and chief of staff to the president when Djotodia was in power, as new prime minister last Sunday to replace Andre Nzapayeke who resigned on Aug. 5. in accordance with the cease fire agreement concluded between former Seleka and anti-Balaka on July 23 in Brazzaville Congo.
